It is not sinful to prefer familiarity, and Islamic law does recognise kafa'ah, or compatibility, as a real consideration that protects the bride and her family. What the Quran and Sunnah do not support is refusing an upright, religious proposal purely because of caste. Preference is permitted; rejection on caste grounds alone is where the difficulty lies.
